Enjoy the first 80km of Tokaido in just 30 minutes! Tokaido Shinkansen was launched in 1964 for the first Tokyo Olympics and closely follows the route of the Old Tokaido Foot Highway on its journey to Kyoto and Osaka. Hakone Hachiri, a 32km stretch of the Old Highway over mountainous terrain between Odawara and Mishima, via Hakone, is one big exception. At this point Tokaido Shinkansen takes the flat coastal route via Atami, giving us an opportunity to enjoy the Old Highway on foot. We pick up the Shinkansen line again at Mishima at the end of our tour, allowing you to return conveniently to Tokyo after a day’s heritage hike.
Tours start from Odawara Station and finish at Mishima Station.
